From November 16, 2018 to January 20, 2019 the Art Gallery of the Yeltsin Center (Yekaterinburg) presented the exhibition “Freedom Exists. Graphic Art by Eric Bulatov of 1955-2018 from private collections and the collection of the author. " Among other works, the exhibition features 2 graphic sheets from the Aksenov Family Foundation collection.
The artist Erik Bulatov about the exhibition:
“No matter what experts in contemporary art say, I remain convinced that drawing has been and remains the basis of fine art. The artist's understanding of his professional work and the relationship of fine art with the material with which he works — life itself, its awareness, subconscious and even its moral aspects are based on it."
I am very serious about the exhibition, which for the first time will touch upon different sides of my work with drawing in my entire creative life, and will show what I have been able to achieve.
The exhibition consists of six sections, arranged in chronological order. The exhibition opens with drawings made during his studies at the art institute, and ends with sketches for sculptures that Erik Bulatov has been working on recently. Most of the works are presented for the first time. The additional seventh section should help everyone who wants to learn more about the artist himself. Here one may find video interviews and films with the participation of Erik Bulatov, catalogues and books about him. Public program of the exhibition includes meetings with curators, lectures, discussions. The curators of the exhibition are Sergey Popov, Natalia Sidlina and Ilya Shipilovskikh.
