Markus Hinterhäuser, the Salzburg Music Festival's Intendant, presented the 2018 program for Russian audience.
On February 9, members and guests of the club and the Russian Society of Friends of the Salzburg Festival gathered in the White Hall of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the 418 Intellectual Club. The quartet and choir musicAeterna under the direction of Teodor Currentzis performed for the guests. Their performance in Salzburg in 2017 was a triumph of Russian music. The event also included performances by the soloist of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater Nadezhda Pavlova and the pianist Riad Mamedov.
The announcement of the Russian program of the Salzburg Music Festival for 2018 was no less expected event for the guests of the evening. Presenting the program, festival intendant Markus Hinterhäuser emphasized the importance of Russian musicians' participation in the Salzburg festival and thanked the members of the Russian Friends Society for their interest in music and support of the festival's projects.
I want to confess that I am in love with everything that comprises Russian culture: literature, music. These are very personal and important stories to me. I think Russian musicians are among the best in the world. Grigory Sokolov, Evgeny Kissin, Evgenia Muravyova, Aida Garifullina — they are all incredible musicians and performers, and we are very proud to welcome them to our music festival. Among the most awaited performances of 2018 is definitely Beethoven's Ninth Symphony staged by musicAeterna Orchestra and Teodor Currentzis.
The year 2018 in Salzburg opens new pages of Russian culture with each performance. Markus Hinterhäuser performs five piano works by the little-known in the West, but very interesting Soviet and Russian avant-garde composer Galina Ustvolskaya. Everyone anticipates the performance of Tchaikovsky's "The Queen of Spades," which features a plethora of outstanding performers from Russia, including Evgenia Muravyova, the promising discovery of the 2017 season in Salzburg. The audience await a special program from the celebrated couple Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov. Ildar Abdrazakov, a winner of the National Theater Award "Golden Mask" and two-time Grammy Award winner, performs the lead role in the opera "The Italian in Algiers".
